North
Miami Beach, the northern third of the City of Miami Beach, is a
quaint beach community where you'll find the quintessential combination
of a small town atmosphere combined with much to do with its proximity
to attractions in Bal Harbour, Surfside, and, of course, the rest
of Miami beach.
In the 1920s, pioneer developer Henri Levi saw the potential to
develop a village with a décor and style similar to the
villages of his native country France; this explains the French
names that
label the streets of North Miami Beach. The fountain Levi built
which serves as the centerpiece of Normandy Village, still stands
preserving his legacy. The distinctive (and sometimes kitchy) architecture
of Mid and North Beach has recently been coined Miami Modern (or
MiMo), and many predict that it will experience a revival in interest
to rival the Art Deco architecture to the south. In the 50s and
60s, the spotlight was on North Miami Beach with entertainers like
Frank Sinatra performing at the Deauville Hotel and Ed Sullivan
introducing his TV audience to the Beatles.
In this laid back section of the beach, there is a great selection
of hotels and restaurants and just to the west you'll find the 18-hole
Normandy Shores Golf Course on Normandy Isle. Golf, tennis, boating,
biking, shopping, and sunbathing at uncrowded beaches will fill
the time of your stay here. Large amounts of open space and beautiful
parks adorn North Miami Beach along with the pristine stretch of
sandy beach and blue crystal water.
